A much plainer corset,properly laced of course,will be preferred and often with a liner to absorb any perspiration while carrying out duties
Fine dress corsets can be used for Sunday best maid service,or accompanying Mistress on a trip.
Of course the style and severity of corset will be ones Mistress/Masters choice,but ones dress and underwear will need to reflect the standards of ones owner.............
Corsets for sleeping will usually be less severe to aid the deep breathing necessary for sound sleep,a disturbed night will make a maid tired,listless and unable to perform efficiently.However some waist restriction will have to be maintained to further the subjects waist training regime..
Of course when one fails in ones duties,punishments will be applied.Locking corsets severely laced will teach the failing maidservant to do better by means of having to perform duties while very,very tightly laced and breathing shallowly..A Mistress/Master will usually monitor to make sure that fainting does not occur...
The beauty of regular punishment corsetting is that a maidservants waist training regime can be both reinforced and sometimes accelerated,and coupled with a suitable punishment outfit will soon achieve the desired results
PVC for example is a great material for training/punishment..if one is locked tightly into a PVC corset,long bloomers,thick stockings,boots,and several layers of PVC petticoats followed by a heavy PVC dress uniform suitably padlocked,then it will only take a couple of hours before the maid is unbearable hot and perspiring(water should be allowed frequently),but also it can be a boon because maids in Victorian times would have to work in full corsets and uniform however hot it got,so this kind of "heat" training will make ones maid more acclimatised whenever her usual uniform is worn
